Computer recognizes many words and phrases, so you had better to convert word by word or phrase by phrase, instead of letter by letter.  (ex. To type 日本人です, you should type nihonnjinndesu” all together and hit Return .)

Computer would not recognize words if you misspell the words.  For example, gakkou (school) should be typed 'gakkou' to get to the correct kanji equivalent 学校.  If you spell 'gakko' (notice there is not 'u' at the end.), the computer would not give you the correct kanji.
