Bio for Jeff Andelora
Professional
I've taught English full-time at Mesa Community College (MCC) since 1996. Prior to that I taught at Mesa High School for ten years. In addition to teaching first-year composition (ENG102) both in the classroom and online, I regularly teach Introduction to Shakespeare (ENH230), and, occasionally, Children's Literature (ENH291), Adolescent Literature (ENH292), and Nature and Environmental Literature (ENH206). I'm currently the chair of MCC's English Department and actively participate in a number of professional organizations, including The National Council of Writing Program Administrators (WPA), the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC), and the Two-Year College English Association (TYCA) and its regional affiliate TYCA-West (TYCA-West).Personal
I was born and raised in Buffalo, New York, the eldest of five children. In 1978 I moved to Tempe, Arizona to attend ASU and have lived here ever since. I'm married to Amy, who teaches English at Mesa High School, and we have two children, Chelsea and Caitlin. We also share our home with Charlie, our bouncing, 90-pound Rhodesian Ridgeback.Like Thoreau, one of my literary heroes, I try to live deliberately, tending carefully to the relationships and activities I'm involved in. While most of those activities are happily rooted in my roles as father, husband, and teacher, I also spend quite a bit of time reading, writing, and when nobody else is around to listen, playing the piano. To unwind, I coach my daughter's soccer team, which allows me to run around outside, kick a ball, blow a whistle, and generally be ignored by a group of very chatty eleven-year-olds.
