B.A. in English, MA in Teaching English as a Second Language, and Ph.D Composition/Rhetoric/Linguistics from ASU.

Dr. Phung is a native of southern California. Prior to Dr. Phung's tenured appointment at MCC, he taught ESL at Rio Salado College and at the University of California, Riverside. Currently, Dr. Phung teaches intermediate/advanced ESL grammar/writing, First-year composition for ESL and American students, and Introduction to the Study of Language. His research interests are centered on second language vocabulary acquisition, cross-cultural rhetoric and discourse, and ESL writing. Dr. Phung enjoys surfing, camping, and fishing.
