About the EAC

In the fall of 1989, MCC students and faculty founded this club in response to concerns on the environment. The club consists of two faculty advisors, club executive officers and members. Anyone can join!! This club is open to all students!!

In the past, the club has supported the following activities and more!!!
Reseeding disturbed areas in Usery Park Co-sponsoring Environmental Forums at ASU Scheduling Earth Day Events on the MCC campus Establishing recycling on campus Writing representatives and senators regarding environmental issues Sponsoring educational activities with the Desert Botanical Gardens Promoting campus beautification projects involving Xeriscape (Desert Landscape) Sponsoring speakers on issues such as toxic waste and rainforests Participating in the Salt River Cleanup Providing environmental education presentations to local elementary schools Maintaining a pesticide free organic garden in the MCC greenhouse Collecting signatures on environmental petitions Supporting ballot initiatives that favor the environment.

The club's fund raising activities include rummage sales and plant sales of herbs, vegetables and desert plants raised in the greenhouse.

Weekend activities include hikes, picnics & campouts in locations such as Boyce Thompson Arboretum, Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery, Usery Mountaiw Regional Park, Hassayampa River Reserve, South Mountain Park, Peralta Trail in the Superstition Mountain & Fort Huachuca, For several years, we have taken a 3 day camping trip to the San Pedro River riparian area.

The EAC has worked in conjunction with the following: The Southwest Center for Biodiversity, Arizona Game & Fish Department, The City of Mesa Water Conservation Department, Volunteers for Outdoor Arizona, The Sierra Club, PAWS (Preserve Arizona's Wolves), New Frontiers in Education and the City of Mesa Recycling Program Each faculty advisor has different areas of interest & expertise.

Advisors have offices in the Life Science Department in the Nursing Building.
