WHAT IS HISTORY?

FIRE AND BRIMSTONE

The United States, in spite of its growing economic power, became more and more isolationist in response to the belief that the Great War had been brought about by the armament and munition manufacturers; the growing militarism abroad and lastly in response to our entrance into the depression.

Roosevelt, according to some, wanted to get involved in the war against Germany and accordingly did not inform the military of the planned attack on Pearl Harbor. What were the failures of the military? What happened at Clark Field the following day? Do any of the same problems exist in the military today?

There is an abundance of evidence to show that he was leading us towards war with Germany. According to many historians Roosevelt would have been derelict in his duties if he had not prepared us for war. In preparing us for war he was often not truthful and took upon himself powers that belonged to Congress and that were not constitutional. Once the balance of powers between the branches of government are shifted they often remain changed.

The dropping of the atomic bomb raised and still raises questions. Why was the bomb dropped? Should it have been dropped? Could it not have been dropped? Was it an immoral act? Is war immoral? Can war be moral? Was conventional bombing any more humane? Did the effects of radiation continue to kill people for years after the explosion?
