    Why did people move west? What were the characteristics of the people who moved west? How were they influenced by the frontier? What did they experience? Were they heroes or villains?

AFRICANS IN AMERICA

    The Arabs and later the Europeans established the African slave trade. Describe the two systems. What was and is slavery like in Africa and the Middle East? Why did slavery exist? Does it exist today? Describe the similarities and differences between the treatment of indentured servants and African slaves in America. How did Blacks resist the slave system? How were they able to endure the system? Are there any similarities between their adaptation and that of Jews in the concentration camps in World War II? What are some of the contributions of Blacks to American culture and history? What were the views of the founding fathers in relation to slavery? What did they do to eliminate it? Could slavery have been eliminated without a civil war? How?
