FEELING OUR OATS

    United States history had always involved territorial expansion, but after 1890 it took on a new aspect. In what way did it change? Why did it change? How was the change influenced by events occurring in the United States and around the world? Why did we become more aggressive and assertive in world politics?

    How was the Spanish American War representative of our new world view? Why did we fight the war even though Spain had given in to all of our demands? Was it simply a war to protect the property of sugar plantation owners in Cuba and to obtain naval bases in the Pacific? What were the results of the war? Did Cuba and the Phillipines become free and independent nations? Why did they or didn't they? What methods did we use to defeat Aguinaldo and his supporters?
