WHAT IS HISTORY?

THE REVOLUTION

Was there an American Revolution? Was there a shift of power from one small group to another group or was there a real change in the structure of American society? What was the revolution? Why did people rebel? Why did we win our revolution? Are there similarities between the American Revolution and the Vietnam conflict?

From the first there was debate as to the Constitution and its meaning and as to what the nation's future should be. Hamilton and Jefferson were the leaders in the conflict. What were their views? Were Jefferson's principles right or wrong for his time? Could we still be a Jeffersonian nation or have the needs of the people changed to such an extent that Jeffersonian Democracy is no longer possible? Does the Constitution have any meaning in modern society other than as a propaganda piece for those wishing to transfer more power to the federal government?
