What is this course about?

This course is designed to introduce you to the religions in the world.  We will explore the religions of the world in 8 units; Intro to Religious Studies, The Oral Religions, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam and closing thoughts. We will take an interdisciplinary approach to learning; (the arts, history, anthropology, comparative religions, cultural studies, etc.) Each unit has lecture notes, lots of web links, video clips, and a chapter to read in the textbook. There is a quiz after each unit. Assignments for the semester include two project type assignments and lots of interactive on line discussions. There are also recommended DVDs for you to watch.

How will it be taught?

This specific course is taught from an academic approach via the Internet, in Blackboard / WebCT.   It does not assume any prior knowledge of religion, although having basic knowledge of the religions of the world, history and cultures before this course is a plus!!

What is required for the course?

Doing all assigned readings, participation in the discussions, there is one quiz per unit and the optional DVDs to view. There is also one major semester Special Project assignment which allows you many choices (research paper, project, interview, worship site visitations, presentation, etc.).
