Spring 2010 Registration

Spring registration is now in full swing. Thank you to all that took advantage of the early registration. Make sure when you are building your schedule to create it around your Honors Only class.

Honors only classes tend to be conducted in a seminar format and will be a rewarding academic experience. You will need a permission number in order to self register for any Honors only class. Contact the Honors Office to obtain the permission number by phone or email. Honors Only Classes.

If you were interested in seeing an advisor, now would be a great time to go in to discuss classes for Fall and make sure you are on track with your program. We would like to remind you that the Honors Office does not do Advising. Carol Vaughan and Melissa Turnbull are the advisor designated for Honors students in the Advising Office at Southern and Dobson.

There is an opportunity for those of you that are creative in the artistic area. The Arizona Honors Council (AHC) is seeking a logo for use on stationery and our new website. The mission of the Arizona Honors Council is to support and encourage the development of Arizona honors programs in higher education and to establish a collegial relationship among the representatives of such programs for the exchange of ideas, innovations and best practices in honors education.

We invite you to design a logo for our organization. Think about your experiences in honors, the excitement, the passion for learning, the challenging exchanges, the quest for discovery, and help us capture that energy in a logo.

One entry per individual Honors student will be accepted. Please keep in mind that the logo must be scalable--from as large as the front of a t-shirt to as small as the cover of the printed conference program and must render well in color as well as grayscale.

The winner will receive a $200 book scholarship and recognition on the AHC website!

Entries should be submitted electronically by November 16th to:

Graduating with Honors vs. Gradating from the Honors Program:

Graduating with honors and graduating from the Honors Program are two different things. I compare them to 'gold stars', the more you have by your name, the better. Having both distinctions look good on any application or resume.

Graduating with honors is your over all GPA, designated as
                               • With Distinction (GPA 3.50 – 3.69)
                               • With High Distinction (GPA 3.70 – 3.89)
                               • With Highest Distinction (GPA 3.90 – 4.0)

Graduating from the Honors Program, you will need to have
                               • Fifteen credits of Honors credits.
                               • One credit of Service Learning.
                               • GPA of 3.5 or higher.

DVDs:

The DVDs for all the speakers are in the Libraries on both campuses. We also have some copies in the Honors Office that can be checked out.
