Cochise Third Straight Victim For MCC Women

3-1 victory making things interesting

Coach Karine Inoue couldn't be happier. Her injury-riddled team won its third straight contest Monday night, September 24 in Douglas against Cochise.

After losing four of their first five, (one tie) the Lady T'Birds are one win away from pulling even in the win-loss column.

They look to do just that next Wednesday night, October 3 in Phoenix against Paradise Valley. The game is slated to start at 1:00 p.m.

Women Stepping In Right Direction

Team wins second straight match

MCC women's soccer is putting some "W's" in the column; a second straight "W" to be exact, and the once injury-riddled lineup is getting healthier...at least in the standings.

Mesa topped Glendale 1-0 on Saturday night on the road and in the same instance, improved their record to 2-4-1 on the young season. Head Coach Karine Inoue has reason to be optimistic about the turnaround.

The ladies hit the road Monday night for a contest with Cochise in Douglas at 3:30 p.m.

First Win Sweet For New Coach

Ladies notch first win of season

Women Soccer Home

The 2007 women's soccer team has had a tough go thus far, but on Saturday night the tide turned. Mesa took it to Phoenix College all night and ended up with a victory.

Striker Krista Mirabelli scored first on an assist from Midfielder Ashley Wise. Wise would tally a goal of her own for the game winner.

The ladies fielded only ten players due to injury but were able to overcome the odds and get their first victory of the year.

Paradise Valley visits the friendly confines Monday at 4:30 p.m. as Mesa looks to pick up momentum and start a streak in the right direction.

Ladies Manage Tie At Scottsdale

A lonely game The lonely life of a keeper

Team plays well in 1-1 game

Head Coach Karine Inoue didn't get exactly what she was looking for, but she'll take it.

The Lady T'Birds escaped with a tie in a match Saturday night at Scottsdale after playing a player down for most of the second half, according to Inoue.

"We missed some opportunities early on, but overall we played well," said Inoue.

Krista Mirabelli scored on an assist from Ashley Wise in the first half.

There were three yellow cards and one red card issued to the women on the Mesa side. That mandated one player would need to be removed from the game.

Next on slate for the women - a home game Wednesday, September 12 at 4:30 p.m. versus Pima.

Ladies Looking For Elusive First Win

Short-handed team goes down to Lady Coyotes, 3-1

Head Coach Karine Inoue is trying to juggle a very short lineup as the team was only able to suit up 13. It showed, as the Lady T'Birds looked fatigued in losing their third straight.

Krista Mirabelli scored the lone goal for MCC with 18:54 to play in the game. Chandler-Gilbert led 3-0 at the half and held on for the win.

MCC was outshot 24-13 in this one but received some really nice defensive play from Stephanie Prichett and Monica Marfechuk. Goalkeeper Dana Craven was kept busy in the net, saving 13 shots on goal.

Next up for the ladies is on the road at Scottsdale, Saturday, September 8 at 4:30 p.m.

MCC Loses Tight One to Paradise Valley

Defense rules as Pumas win, 1-0

The MCC Women's Soccer team was dealt much more than just a loss Friday night.

The injury bug jumped up and bit the team and one of its star players. Sophomore midfielder Kelly Wallace went down with a knee injury and the team is anxiously awaiting the reults.

The game went into the second half scoreless. However, with about 20 minutes left in the contest, Paradise Valley got the lone goal of the match.

"The game was real competitive. Back and forth all night, and the defense was really solid on both sides," said Athletic Director John Mulhern.

In addition to Wallace going down, MCC was without sophomore standout forward Ashley Wise, who is serving a two-game suspension from a red card issued to her the final game of last season.

The ladies will look for their first win of the 2007 campaign against Chandler-Gilbert at home on Wednesday night, September 5 at 4:30 p.m.

Women’s Soccer: 2006-2007 Season Wrapup

The MCC women's soccer squad finished an impressive season with a record of 15-4-2.

Coach Tim Barmettler led his squad through a tough season. The Thunderbirds lost a heart-breaker to Schoolcraft College 5-4 in penalty kicks, which ended the team's hopes of a national title.

This was the fourth consecutive year the ladies made it into the NJCAA Tournament Championships.

The loss came in the first round of the NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer National Championships.

"We won Sportsmanship Award as a team, which is a really nice honor for our girls," said Barmettler.

Mesa defeated Hartford in the consolation bracket, but lost to Laramie. Lea Plarski was chosen for the Sportmanship award for the tournament. Cammi Kellar and Monique Wells were selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Karine Inoue has been hired on as the new coach for the 2007 season replacing Barmettler. Inoue played semi-pro soccer under Barmettler for the Arizona Heat Wave in the W-League.

Coach Barmettler has chosen to spend more time with his family and continue his director position at Gilbert soccer, where he oversees 34 teams.

"Karine will be a strong coach for women's soccer. She was an assistant of mine as well as a player, so the program is in very capable hands," said Barmettler.
