Students, are you learning about the value of internships, trying to find an internship, or applying to receive college credit for your internship experience? Career & Re-Entry Services is here to help! We can help with your internship search by referring you to potential internship opportunities. We also help students polish their resumes while learning interview etiquette. Career & Re-Entry Services continues to seek ways in which to expand internship opportunities for MCC students and to reach out to the MCC business community.

Why Internships are so Important!

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), 62% of students who completed an internship indicated they “definitely would” (36%) or “probably would” (26%) accept an offer for a full-time position from their most recent internship employers.  NACE Survey Report Hotlink

What qualifies a position for Internship Credit?

MCC Career & Re-Entry Services offers a number of ways to find an internship.  Most students will find an internship through our list of local Internship Partners.  But you may wonder whether a job you currently hold, or another position not listed on our sites, can qualify for Internship College Credit.

Every student who earns credit through the Career & Re-Entry Services Internship Program must have a set of learning objectives that need to be fulfilled.  These objectives are outlined by your academic faculty and found in your course syllabus.  These objectives may include:

  • Learn key skills required in your industry
  • Gain a knowledge of core activities
  • Learn how organizations measure success
  • Discover career paths in industry
  • Learn the organization’s culture
  • Learn the organization’s chain of command/hierarchy
  • Learn the organization’s policies/procedures
  • Learn how the company communicates with its customers/target audience

What Every College Student Should Know

  • All internships are learning experiences – some may be paid while others may be non-paid depending upon industry trends.
  • Make the most out of your internship experience by timely, quality work and applying critical thinking
  • Gain real world experience and learn new skills while earning college credit
  • Build your resume, portfolio, and/or curriculum vitae as well as collecting letters of reference
  • Network and make new connections in the industry for any future job seeking opportunities
  • Most employers (58% or more) are more likely to hire interns --- be professional

For Internship Site procedural guidelines contact Felicia Price, Internship  Coordinator, by phone at 480-461-7282 or email at felicia.price@mesacc.edu.  The Career & Re-Entry Services Internship Program is designed to give students flexibility to earn credit for an internship position that will complement their skills and college major.  Therefore, a variety of positions may qualify for credit if they can fulfill minimum requirements.  The following guidelines will help determine if a position may qualify for Internship Credit through MCC.
