Strengths: A GPS for Navigating Your Future
When you think about literally charting a course, you have to know where you are before you can get to where
you want to go. In the case of charting your future, the equivalent is knowing who you are. The only way to gain
experience and have success as a leader is understanding the natural talents and skills you bring to a role, as
well as those you don't...then consciously choosing to move forward based on your talents, not your limitations.
During Mark's presentation, he will introduce a philosophy of personal development based on more than 30 years of
Gallup's research on the best-of-the-best in specific roles—a philosophy that you can apply to your own authentic
leadership development.
One common denominator of the best is their focus on using their strenths to achieve excellence. As part of Mark's
presentation, you'll have the opportunity to participate in StrengthsQuest™, a strengths-based development
program that includes the Clifton StrengthsFinder, an instrument designed to identify your top five themes of
talent. Read Mark Pogue's bio here.
StrengthsQuest™ is a revolutionary program from The Gallup Organization that focuses students,
staff, and faculty on their strengths rather than their weaknesses in order to help them achieve academic, career
and personal success. Through the generosity of the Gallup Organization, each conference attendee will be given a
code to access StrengthsQuest™, an online questionnaire used to identify their individual strengths.
Participant's results will be discussed during Mark's presentation.

Everyday Leadership: Applying Positive Psychology Principles for Everyday Benefit
Everyday leadership drives higher education throughout the world. Authentic leaders practice what they teach
and they contribute to the personal development of their faculty and their students. How do they know that?
Intentionally or unintentionally, authentic leaders inspire, model, and bring change to situations and to lives.
Purposeful efforts to build on what goes right in an educational institution could help leaders achieve their
goals.
Positive psychological science is generating robust findings about how we can take advantage of the moments
of the day that matter most. In Shane's presentation, he will review the high points of the latest research and
discuss how capitalizing on positive psychological discoveries can help everyday leaders share everyday benefits with the people and communities they serve.

The Path of Conscious Leadership
Patricia Aburdene’s closing keynote will explore three megatrends
that profoundly influence leaders in community colleges and universities.
First, Patricia will describe how leaders from many walks of life are living transcendent values and personal
spirituality in their organizations. Next, she will tackle the special challenges and unique opportunities of
“Leading from the Middle,” that is to say, exerting authority, influence, and even power from mid-levels,
rather than at the organizational “top.” Third, she will focus on spirituality at work and the changes it is
creating in both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors. Patricia will conclude with a discussion of the
critical role of self-mastery in authentic leadership.
“We, the people, have the power to transform our organizations,” Patricia says. “And when we do—when we
walk the path of conscious leadership—then we shall have the power to change the world.”
On Saturday afternoon, there will be a question and answer session with Patricia, along with a discussion of
Megatrends and other topics from her closing keynote address.
