CIS105 Data Files - Office 2003

The files required to complete the labs for CIS105 are available on the Student Resource CD
included with the textbook and on the Internet. The individual files can be downloaded from here
(www.mc.maricopa.edu/dept/d07/cis105/), or from the publisher's website,
Prentice Hall (www.prenhall.com/essentials/). At
the publisher's website click on the book titled, Essentials Office 2003, then click on Student Resources
to get to the data files. The instructions to download from the publisher's website are posted at the
publisher's website and are also printed in the front cover of
the required textbook, Essentials Microsoft Office 2003 - Custom Edition.

Instructions:

In order to save the data files, you will need a personal storage device. A USB 128MB Flash Drive
is required to fit all of the files.

Individual files can also be downloaded to a 3.5" floppy disk (1.4MB), but most Access files will not fit on
a floppy. Floppy disks should only be used as a last resort. Before attempting to save data files on to
a 3.5" floppy disk, it must be
formatted. See Formatting a 3.5" Disk for detailed instructions.

Label your storage device with your name and instructor's name. In addition, consider creating
a folder on the storage device with your name and instructor's name.
Having the names will increase the chances of having the device returned to you if it is lost.

The recommended browser to download the data files is Internet Explorer.

To download the archive with all of the data files at one time, click on the
ess2003_all_files.exe link below.

In the dialog box, save the file to your storage device by selecting the save to disk option.

In the save dialog box, navigate to the drive assigned to your storage device.
In computer lab and classrooms, USB drives are usually assigned the letter E: or the next available letter.

Note/record the path of where the file is being saved, because you will need to navigate back to this
location using Windows Explorer.
Click on Save to save the file.

The Access Integration data file should also be downloaded at this time using the steps listed above.
Begin by clicking on the ess2003_acc2_sdf.zip link below.

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to where the files were saved.
Double-click on ess2003_all_files.exe to begin the extraction process.
Double-click on ess2003_acc2_sdf.zip to begin the extraction process.

After extracting the files, delete the two archives
(ess2003_all_files.exe and ess2003_acc2_sdf.zip) from your storage device.

To prevent damaging the USB drive, be sure to use the Safely Remove Hardware option
before pulling out the USB drive.

Keep your storage device in a safe and cool place to prevent lost of data.

If most of the lab work will be completed at home, students
should download all of the files using the steps listed above at home.
The files should be downloaded the C: drive. The files are self-extracting executables files.
When the files are double-clicked, you are asked to specify where you want the files saved.
The default folder is C:\Essentials Office 2003 Data Files\.

Sometimes a file may need to be restored or is used for an in-class assignment.
Individual files my also be downloaded by clicking on the desired file below.
After clicking on the document, your browser's action will vary depending on it's configuration.
The recommended browser is Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer should ask you if you want to Save or Open the document.
If it does, Select Save, and save the file to your device by selecting the appropriate drive.

Internet Explorer may instead open the file with the associated application.
For example, the Word documents would be opened by the Word application.
If the document is opened, use File Save As from within the application to save
the file to your storage device.
All Data Files:
Download files for all projects ess2003_all_files.exe except for Access Integration Projects.
Archive file is 24MB and expands to 70MB in a folder named \Essentials Office 2003 Data Files\
Excel Project 5 file not included in archive. Download and save in Excel Project 5 folder
after expanding the archive listed above. EE1_0500.xls
Access Integration ess2003_acc2_sdf.zip
Archive file is 260KB and expands to 1MB into the same folder the archived is stored in.
This archive requires an expanding program such as WinZip.
