Keys for Success
  • Important: Although you are not required to "submit" all exercises in your lab book, it is important that you work through the steps to ensure you understand how to complete each of the tasks. The skills within the labs build upon each other and will be included in your tests.
  • Your data files can be found on the Essentials Student Data disk which came with your textbook, or online through the CIS105 Technology Toolbox or the link below. You will need to save the files to your USB flash drive.

http://www.mc.maricopa.edu/dept/d07/cis105/student_disks.html  You will need Access 2003 files for these projects. (The Integrating Projects files can ONLY be found here; they were not included on your student data CD.)

You will need your USB Flash drive for these lessons. (The files are too large for floppy disks.)

  • When the book asks you to save to the 3 1/2" A:Floppy drive, you should instead save the files to your USB flash drive to complete your lessons (see syllabus).
  • Each project/lesson may either require you create a file, open a file and back it up to a different name, or both. Be sure to read and follow each step carefully.
  • Don't forget to read information in the If You Have Problems and the Extending Your Knowledge boxes found throughout the pages of your lab book.

Complete the Following Tasks

1

Read and work through ALL of the Lessons in Projects 1 through 8 in the Microsoft Access 2003 section of your textbook (pp 663-943)

  • You will need your data files (from your data CD or you can download them as indicated above.)
  • Ensure your name is located within each file (add a record with your name for each lesson).
  • Complete all lessons for each project in this section. A list of all of the files you will submit is listed below. Each file name should begin with your last name and the Project # ((i.e. Smith_P1_Personnel_File.mdb) Note: DO NOT use spaces in the file name or it won't upload to WebCT correctly.
  • Upload each file to the Lab-Access Dropbox (Don't click Submit until all files files listed below are uploaded).

  • Save the file as: YourLastName_Media (i.e. Smith_Media). Note: DO NOT use spaces in the file name or they may not upload to the dropbox correctly.
  • Create the tables needed for a media tracking/inventory system.  Include the fields within each table, their type, and size.  (Hint:  You may adapt your original answers to the COMP Chapter 13 questions; however you'll want to write it out before you start creating tables in Access).
