Module 3: Labs & Concepts
(Addendum to Assignment Schedule)
Semester:  Fall 2005

NOTE:  This is a tentative schedule and may be CHANGED at instructor's discretion.
Module 3 includes Chapters 9-10 and 13 in your Computers: Tools for an Information Age (COMP) and the Access  section of your Essentials 2003 Lab (ESS) book.  Check your Weekly Assignment Schedule for due dates and point structure.  You will be using Microsoft Office software to complete most of your assignments.  (You can also use Wordpad or Notepad to answer concepts questions.) You should be able to find them through clicking on the Start button on the task bar, then selecting Programs.

 
Keys for Success
  • Important: Although you are not required to "submit" all of the end of chapter exercises in your concepts book, it is important that you work through them to ensure you understand the information presented. You will see some of these questions again later in your tests -- so it can be used as a study guide.
  • The assignments you will be submitting were selected to reinforce the application of the concepts which are covered within the text.
  • Don't forget to read information in the boxes found in the margins throughout the pages of your lab book. Specifically read the Focus on Ethics and Getting Practical information.
  • Use your course schedule to keep track of due dates. You are responsible for meeting timelines. Late assignments are subject to point deductions. Don't procrastinate!

Read Planet Internet - Online Privacy (7-222 - 7-223). Answer Structured Exercise #1 (pg. 7-223). (Use a valid online resource and cite it within your answers.) 5 pts

Read Chapter 9 -Social and Ethical Issues. (Planet Internet - Shopping Tour is optional.) . Pay particular attention to Home Page Snoops ( pg 9-266). Review copyright guidelines link in CIS105 Student Technology Toolbox). Be prepared to discuss in class.
Answer Critical Thinking #5 (pg 9-279)
(Use a valid online resource and cite it within your answers.)

Read Chapter 10 -Security and Privacy and Planet Internet - Hackers, Crackers, and Trojans .
Answer two (2) of the following: Critical Thinking #1, #2, #3, or #4 (pg 10-313) (5 pts each)

Read Chapter 13 -Database Management Systems.
Answer ALL of the following: Database Questions and Exercises #1 and #2 (pp 13-394 - 13-395) You will be using this for your Access Lab (10 pts each)

Submitting Your Assignment:
Save the file as YourLastName_Mod3 (i.e. Smith_Mod3). Upload to the Dropbox (do not send through email), then submit the file. (Instructions for using the Dropbox can be found in the Course Info section in WebCT.)
