Week 2
What impact has the Internet/Web had on the country/world in times of tragedy (specifically September 11, 2001 events in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington DC) and/or war. Is this impact positive or negative (or both)? Explain your position.

What software applications have you used prior to taking this class?  What are your favorites? Which ones were a challenge?  What applications would you like to learn?
 
Week 5
There are five examples listed concerning personally identifying information in the Focus on Ethics callout box on page 4-106.  Each of these technologies has potential benefits to the consumer and the industry, but each could pose a threat to your privacy.

Cite TWO or more of the examples and list at least two (2) benefits and two (2) drawbacks to each. What type of policies could industry, government, or individuals adopt that would help to ensure that the benefits of the selected technology outweigh the costs?

 
Week 6

You've now read/learned about various input, output, and storage devices. The text briefly mentioned a few assistive/adaptive technologies available for
those with disabilities. This week's discussion topic is to help increase your
awareness and share information concerning these important and necessary
technologies.

1b. Based on the first initial of your last name, use this site (or others) to
explore at least two technologies/methods which enable people with a disability to use a computer who would otherwise find operating a computer difficult, maybe even impossible.

If your last name begins with A-F, review the assistive/adaptive technologies
available for those who are
blind or visually impaired.

If your last name begins with G-L, review the assistive/adaptive technologies
available for those who are
deaf or hard of hearing.

If your last name begins with M-R, review the assistive/adaptive technologies
available for those who have a
physical disability or restricted movement.

If your last name begins with S-Z, review the assistive/adaptive technologies
available for those who have a l
earning and/or cognitive disability.

1. Do you think drivers should be banned from using hand-held cell phones? Why or Why not?
2. What kind of role did cell phones play in the tragic September 11, 2001 events in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington DC and during the war?
3. Some cell phones now have picture-taking/sending capabilities. What effect (if any) will this have on privacy?
 
Week 9
1.Read Focus on Ethics on pages 8-236 and 13-389.
2.Select one of these and answer the questions posed (Chapter 8 is on the Internet and stocks; Chapter 13 focuses on the ethical use of databases).   Explain your answers.
 
Week 10
Read Focus on Ethics (pg. 10-294). Post your thoughts on the three questions listed.
 
Week 11
What do you think the primary online security and/or privacy issue is today?  What are some possible solutions to the problem? Explain your position. Post your thoughts.
 
Week 12
Have you ever been involved in the implementation of a new system and/or updated system? What was it and what was your role and how was it handled? If not, have you been a customer/client on the receiving end of a new system? Explain what happened.
 
Week 13
What component of the five-step Programming Process discussed in the textbook do you think would be the most difficult/challenging?  Why?
 
Week 14
Read Chapter 16 -MIS, specifically the Focus on Ethics section (pg 16-487).

What ethical issues does this approach to Web Computing raise (i.e., intellectual property, privacy, security, crime, or others). Explain.

List two possible guidelines for the industry and/or the consumer of these network computers.
