Mesa Community College
Business Administration Department
Evonne Bowling
Evonne Bowling is new to the Business Department this semester. She is the Program Director for Fashion Merchandising and Design, and her Textiles and Clothing (TEC) curriculum merged with the Business Dept earlier this year. There are nearly 50 sections of more than 25 different courses being offered next semester in the TEC program, and Evonne is the only full-time faculty member of this popular program. She is the advisor to the Fashion Focus Club, and personally teaches courses such as Textiles, Wardrobe Strategies, Introduction to Fashion Merchandising, Retail Buying and Merchandising, and others.
Evonne has taught in the Maricopa District for nearly 10 years, the past four at MCC. A California native, Evonne earned her BS from Cal State Chico and her MS from Oklahoma State. She has 25 years of experience in the fashion industry, and has worked as a Buyer and other positions for merchandisers such as Diamonds, Dillards, Dayton Hudson, and Doncaster Clothing, the latter as Regional Manager for Arizona and Nevada.
Evonne’s many memberships include ITAA (International Textile & Apparel Assoc), CSA (Costume Society of America), and AATCC (the American Association of Apparel & Textile Colorists & Chemists). She is Past President and Founding Member of the East Valley National Charity League, has served on the Board of Directors and been a Sustaining Member of The Junior League of Phoenix, and has worked closely with the Arizona Costume Institute and with the Phoenix Art Museum. She was recently nominated for the Design Catalyst Award by the Scottsdale Center for the Arts. Evonne enjoys various philanthropic opportunities, loves fund raising activities, and serves as a consultant to many community-based non-profit programs and clothing banks.
Evonne describes herself as “very shy” and claims she “loves to shop”. She and husband Clint have three children: Brian (24, a Flight Paramedic in the US Army), Christine (22, an Executive Trainee with Neiman Marcus in Dallas), and Kevin (18, a frosh Computer Science major at The Citadel). They make their home in Tempe. She really enjoys the MCC faculty and the unique opportunity she has to build a high quality Fashion program. Evonne hopes to teach for another 10 years and then spend some time traveling in Tuscany or the South of France. You can bet she’ll pick up a few more fashion tips and trends while she’s there!
