Dave Harris

Dave Harris Dave Harris is in his 5th year as a full-time faculty member at MCC. Previously, he was an adjunct faculty member at GWCC and PVCC for 7 years, and also taught classes at Arizona State University, the University of Phoenix and Western International University.

An Ohio native, Dave earned his undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts (Physics) at Ohio Wesleyan University and his MBA from Arizona State University. Dave teaches BPC and CIS classes including BPC100, CIS105, BPC110, Visual Basic, Excel and Access. His favorites are the full Microsoft Access and Advanced Access classes. He is a certified Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) at the “Expert” level in Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook. He is currently serving as the BPC/OAS Program Director, has served as the SAM Administrator for the past three years, and has served on the Student Outcomes Committee (SOC) for the past 4 years.

Dave has more than 35 years of experience in the military, business and industry. He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force for 5 years during which time he was awarded the Meritorious Service Award and two Commendation Medals while the MIS Manager at the former Williams AFB (now ASU Polytechnic). Subsequent positions included Programmer Analyst, Systems Analyst, Programming Manager, and Project Leader. Dave was the MIS/IT Manager with an operating budget of over 1 million dollars per year for the Jensen Tools division of Stanley for more than a decade. He was also on the Systems and Programming staff at ASU and for Wells Fargo Bank, and was the lead Software Project Manager for the Kansas State Lottery.

Dave has always been active in the community. He successfully lobbied the Tempe Elementary School Board to provide Apple Computers in the classroom for the first time, has volunteered in both inner city and suburban school districts to teach the teachers how to use computers, has coached both youth soccer and co-rec adult softball teams for many years, and was a member of various elementary school Parent-Teacher boards. As a member of the business community, Dave served on the Business Advisory Council for both Gateway CC and South Mountain CC.

In his spare time, Dave enjoys investing in the stock market, all kinds of sports, and traveling. He and his wife of 38 years, Fran, have hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon 15 times. They have two grown sons, Edward and Lucas, and two grandchildren. Dave recently crossed two life-time goals off his list: running a marathon and playing a round of golf at Pebble Beach. He plans to retire in five years to travel and see more of his grandchildren. When asked what he likes most about teaching at MCC, Dave says, “Sharing my experiences and knowledge with students of all ages.” Dave and Fran make their home in Ahwatukee Village, behind South Mountain.
