Juan Marquez is a faculty member in the Business Department. He has been with
Mesa Community College for 4 years. Including stints with Scottsdale Community College
and the district office, Juan has served the Maricopa District for over 20 years.
As the Computer Information Systems (CIS) program director, Juan is involved in a wide variety of activities including hiring faculty, scheduling classes, assigning faculty and adjunct faculty to teach those classes, selecting textbooks, planning and budgeting, and evaluating adjunct faculty performance. Juan teaches programming classes including Visual Basic and C++. He also supervises all Service Learning classes for the CIS program. He is a frequent participant on hiring committees and is an active member of the District CIS Curriculum Committee.
Juan chairs the recently established Marketing Committee and recently created an informative brochure that advertises and explains the programs available in the Business department. In his spare time, Juan also maintains the department’s web site.
A Tucson native, Juan received an AA degree from Scottsdale Community College and a Bachelor of Arts from Ottawa University. Continuing his studies, he later earned a Masters from NAU and a Doctorate from ASU, both in Education.
Juan and his wife, Nachie, make their home in Chandler where they have two sons, Derek and Taylor. Juan has been an active parent, coaching YMCA youth soccer and flag football. One of his teams once went through an undefeated football season.
The most interesting place Juan has ever been is Washington, DC. He finds teaching very rewarding. He “especially likes to assist and work with students that are enthusiastic and serious about their education.” Following spring break, Juan will be representing the department at the annual Course Technology National Conference in San Antonio, TX.
