Lo-An Tabar-Gaul

Lo-An Tabar-Gaul Lo-An Tabar-Gaul has been teaching at Mesa Community College as a BPC/CIS fulltime residential faculty member since 1989. Besides having taught in the traditional classroom setting, she developed and coordinated numerous computer related courses in a variety of different platforms. She has been instrumental in the development and implementation of self-paced open entry courses, online learning, and fast-track training. In the areas of computer applications and operating systems, Lo-An has taught online courses since 1995. Since 1998, she has been mainly teaching Web Development Technology Courses of which she is a Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) Instructor.

Lo-An was born and raised in Vietnam. She has worked at various places which include Vietnam, Seoul Korea, Northern Virginia Community College, and Fort Huachuca, Arizona. She is married to Harry, an Electronic Engineer and has two grown married children, Brian and Michelle. She is a proud grandmother of two grandkids, Williams (2years old) and Sydney (3 weeks old). Lo-An enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and has learned to become a terrific babysitter.

Lo-An holds a M.S. degree in Computer Applications and Information Systems, a B.A. degree in Management, Human, and Organization Behavior, and an A.A.S. degree in Business Administration and Office Technology.

Lo-An has been to many interesting places and she has found Vietnam, Canada and Barbados in the Caribbean to be the most memorable, particularly the golf courses in the Barbados. She has numerous hobbies which consist of golf (she is a great putter), tennis, jogging, skiing, playing bridge, dining out, and working out. What most people would find surprising about Lo-An is that she is a great cook but does not like to cook too often.

In 1985, Lo-An and Dr. Arunee Grow founded the first MCCD Asian Student Association at Mesa Community College. This association later became the Asian/Pacific Islander Coalition (A-PIC) of which the purpose is to mentor and provide annual scholarships to API students at MCC. She was the faculty representative for MCC on the District-Wide Faculty Profession Growth Committee and immediate past President of the MCCD Asian Pacific Islander Association. Lo-An also is a faculty advisor for MCC Student Web Club for the past several years.

When asked what she would like to be doing in 5 to 10 years, she replied, being retired and enjoying life and my family, especially my grandkids. Asked what she likes most about MCC, she replies without hesitation, the students, colleagues and friends.
