Phil is the oldest of 10 children. He grew up in Kalkaska in north central Michigan where he was an Eagle Scout and a National Merit Scholar. Phil loves animals and the outdoors. He has been honored by the Phoenix Zoo for his volunteer work which totaled over 500 hours. He is the proud “pappa” to three ferrets and two cats, and is a certified SCUBA diver. Two years ago Phil won a Tropical Scholarship to Costa Rica, a place he found both beautiful and fascinating. Phil’s extensive hobbies include the Society for Creative Anachronism where he routinely presents educational demonstrations on medieval history and crafts at schools and elsewhere. He also makes silver jewelry, has his own woodworking shop, and enjoys archery with his trusty longbow. Just for fun, Phil also dabbles in welded sculptures.

On campus, Phil is our Faculty Senator and will serve a second term as Faculty Senate Treasurer next year. Phil is a man who perseveres. Before landing his faculty position with MCC, Phil applied for over 40 teaching positions and was interviewed more than a dozen times. He was finally hired permanently after a one-year-only assignment here in the Business dept.

Phil enjoys working with students and his faculty colleagues. He loves the wealth of opportunities available here on campus. He frequently enrolls in classes just for the love of learning. Phil makes his home in Mesa.
