A Perspective on Applied Archaeology at Tiwanaku (by Rick Effland)
Quicktime movies were taken from National Geographic Explorer covered of the Aymara and Tiwanaku.
Archaeology is often viewed as a study of a prehistoric culture. Archaeology is far more than that and archaeologists can study living people as in the "garbage project" of Bill Rathje or can study the historic world under Bank One Ballpark. What is perhaps rarest however is that archaeology can lead to something that helps people directly. This is the story of the archaeology of Tiwanaku and Alan Kolada. It is the story of discovery of archaeological remains but it turned out to shed light on secrets long lost to the people who lived around the magnificent ruins of Tiwanaku. This is a visual story - so these are the people, sounds, and pictures of the Aymara and Tiwanaku.
