There are probably many facets that need to be defined
before archaeologists can really understand the forces that led to the
Classic Period Maya collapse. What we know is that the elite of the Maya
society were to "collapse" and that Maya people continued to live until
today. The culture was transformed somehow by forces at the end of the
Classic Period that led to profound changes in Maya society.
