The Evelyn H. Warren Child Development Laboratory is a multi-age preschool that is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The laboratory preschool provides opportunities for students in MCC classes to observe and interact with young children and their families in a developmentally appropriate environment. Both MCC students and parents of the children enrolled increase their knowledge and understanding of children.
Age groups of three to five years old enroll in the preschool. All children have completed toilet training. Enrollment priorities are filled according to MCC student training needs. Priority may be given to a child of specific age, sex or special consideration due to the program needs. Occasionally, additional criteria may be used to determine group composition.
The Evelyn H. Warren Child Development Lab provides an environment rich in opportunities for exploration and discovery for children to learn about themselves and the world around them. An accepting, nurturing atmosphere encourages the children to learn, interact and grow. The program is designed for children to participate in activities to enhance and develop social and verbal skills, problem solving abilities, large and small motor coordination, cognitive concepts and practical life experiences.
Educational opportunities for Child and Family Studies/Early Childhood Education students are an important aspect of the E.H. Warren Child Development Lab. MCC students observe and conduct case studies on children in the lab. Experimental research studies are also conducted.
