The Education Studies Department of the School of Education at Mesa Community College in its Child and Family Studies and Early Childhood Education trains professionals to share a positive vision of life and of self with young children. Students enrolled in our courses learn to:
- understand the physical, cognitive and social-emotional development of young children
- establish and maintain safe and healthy environments for children
- plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and guidance techniques
- establish supportive relationships with children and their families
- understand the early childhood profession and make a commitment to professionalism
Graduates may start their own business in family child care, teach in or administrate a child care center, or seek a career as an aide or a teacher in an early childhood program. About 40 percent of early childhood workers are self-employed; most are family childcare providers. Others who work with children and require a background in child development include teacher aides, children's tutors, kindergarten and elementary school teachers, early childhood program directors, and child psychologists.
Best wishes as you pursue a career in the development of young children.
