Career Opportunities
Nutrition and Dietetics is a growing field. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts continued job opportunities for both dietitians and dietietic technicians.
A Registered Dietitian (RD) is a highly-qualified professional recognized as an expert in food and nutrition. A Dietetic technician (DTR) is a trained food and nutrition practitioner with an associate's degree who usually works with a Registered Dietitian. The letters RD and DTR signify that a practitioner has completed a specialized program of education and training.
The RD:
holds at least a baccalaureate degree in nutrition or related field from a regionally accredited US college or university; completed an American Dietetic Association approved clinical internship and passed a national credentialing exam.
The DTR:
holds at least an associates degree from a regionally accredited US college or university; completed a supervised practice experience and passed a national credentialing exam.
