Biology Instructor (Andrew Holycross, PhD) Publishes
AZ Field Guide
(August, 2006) "A Field
Guide to Amphibians and Reptiles in Arizona"
is the result of a joint effort between the Arizona
Game and Fish Department, Arizona State University's
School of Life Sciences, Mesa Community College, and
Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (PARC).
The guide costs $12 and can be ordered from the Arizona
Game and Fish Department.

receives $900,000 NSF grant
(June, 2006) Mesa Community
College (MCC), ASU's Biodesign Institute and Polytechnic
Campus and Mesa Public Schools (MPS) have been awarded
a $900,000 grant from the National Science Foundation
(NSF) in response to future workforce needs in the
biosciences field.

Summer Workshops Prepare High School Teachers
(June, 2006) Mesa Community
College Biotechnology faculty and staff hosted approximately
40 high school teachers during a one week summer workshop
designed to assist in the development of biotechnology
programs and instruction at the high school level.

Lab Tech Cultivates Seahorses and Students

Vince Gorge is creating quite a stir in the college's
science lab. "There's a lot to be said for having
living things in the classroom," Gorge said.
"It sure adds a lot more than videos or preserved
specimens in a jar. You're studying life, so if you
bring more life into the room, it makes it more interesting."
