Audio Production Technology
Audio Production Technology
Certificate and Degree Program
Mesa Community College has developed an innovative curriculum designed to
prepare highly qualified individuals for careers in today's music industry.
The program provides an Associate in Applied Science Degree (67 credits) or
a Certificate of Completion (39 credits). The difference between the two is
the addition of General Education classes studied with the AAS
The Audio Production Technology program is based on a curriculum emphasizing studio recording, live concert sound, digital audio workstations and electronic music. Students will work with industry standard equipment and take responsibility for recording sessions and live music events. To supplement these hands-on technology classes, students will take classes in Music Business, Music Theory and Aural Perception. Additionally, MCC is a leader in providing opportunities for visually impaired students to learn electronic music production.
Students can earn the APT degree by completing all the required courses listed; a certificate can be obtained by completing just the core classes. Many of the core classes are available during the evening and summer sessions, and most of the general education requirements can also be met through on-line classes at MCC or Rio Salado.
The future of the music business lies with trained professionals, who bring skills and experience with the latest audio production technologies in studio recording, live concert sound, digital audio workstations and electronic music.
The Audio Production Technology Program at Mesa Community College provides a way for students to build their knowledge base, develop their technical skills, and gain real-world experience. The music and business faculty at MCC are comprised of
a rich combination of performing musicians and music business professionals who work
to encourage, motivate and inspire the student whose goal is a career in the music industry.
