Each of our disciplines can answer that a little differently (see the Philosophy answer or the Religious Studies answer), but we have a common goal: Engagement.

We know that some people focus on ideas, while others focus on people, but our Philosophy and Religious Studies faculty agree that people of either focus can too easily live isolated from the wider world. Whether it is a religious person who decides that his or her relationship with "God" cannot possibly be improved by anyone else's take on it all, or a philosophy major who thinks that Lao tzu or Sankara could not possibly add anything to the Greeks, we all need to be pushed to engage.

Online classes would seem to reinforce the isolation. That is why we are dedicating ourselves to transforming the genre. Whether it means using videos or blogs or podcasts or whatever, we intend to help you bring your ideas and your world into a larger conversation and relationship.
