Members in attendance were Nicole Ellsworth, Ross Pouquette, Don Dodgen, Jason Huggins, Annie Pennell, Clint Warren, Amy Herring, Kristin Howard, Clifton Smith. Guests included Kim Meurer from the Mesa Legend, and Patrice Nango from Center for Global Tolerance and Engagement.
The constitution has been turned in; all that members are awaiting is approval from the president (or is it the dean?).
Members came to a consensus to revise the first “Rule of Engagement.” The new and improved version is:
Individually, we represent a variety of cultures, perspectives, and opinions; together we embrace a dialogue of diversity as the way to an as yet unknown future together.
In reforming this rule, members also discussed the role of the individual as well as club. We outlined four basic functions:
- Introductions (visiting other clubs, establishing an email contact in each, etc)
- Invitations (invite other club members to our meetings to tell us more about themselves)
- Information (defining shared concerns among various groups, and providing the means for people in two different spheres to interact)
- Interaction (let’s talk, listen, and in the process make a third sphere where we all come together)
An idea that was brought up was to be a contact base for all clubs on campus. Members agreed that it we would have a listing of all the club’s sites, contact information as well as a calendar to keep everyone up-to-date on events and meetings.
Reminder: One.org is approaching and members may be updated or pose questions through e-mail in addition to the blog.
Lastly, we mentioned the possibility of focusing the next fall semester on human rights. All members were in favor of this project and anticipate further development.
The next meeting is on Wednesday, April 12, from 2:00-2:50pm.
Next Meeting: April 12, 2:00 - 2:50 pm in BP 1N.
Special thanks to Annie Pennell for the preparation of these minutes.
