Exercise Science courses, at Mesa Community College, prepares students for successful employment in the fitness and coaching industry. The curriculum at Mesa Community College also prepares students to successfully transfer to ASU (Tempe) Kinesiology program or to ASU Polytechnics Exercise and Wellness or Secondary Education - Exercise Science programs or to other 4 year institutions.

These courses provide students with the fundamental knowledge of exercise physiology, fitness principles, strength and conditioning principles and techniques, exercise testing prescription, exercise program design, methods of enhancing performance, theory and methods of coaching, methods of teaching elementary and secondary Exercise Science and much more.

Health Sciencess (HES):

Health Science courses at Mesa Community college provide greater knowledge and insights into health behaviors that create an optimal lifestyle and techniques that can be used to change or modify health behaviors. Courses explore topics such as stress management, substance abuse behaviors, nutrition, exercise and fitness, chronic illness, women's health issues, first aid and CPR and athletic injuries, to mention a few.

Classes are available through a variety of delivery formats: traditional face to face instruction, on line instruction, hybrid (combination of on line and face to face instruction).

Physical Education (EXS)/ Physical Activity Classes

Mesa Community College’s Exercise Science program offers a variety of group fitness, leisure dance, leisure/outdoor sport activities, martial arts, Fitness Centers and sports performance enhancement classes at both Southern and Dobson and Red Mountain which focus on promoting, developing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle by incorporating physical activity and movement into our daily lives, no matter what our age, from young adults to senior citizens. Our faculty and staff are trained to continually support, challenge and engage their students to participate in life-long activity. Taught by experienced faculty, there to assist you in your learning and activity endeavors, choose from a variety of course offerings which include Aerobics, Ballroom dancing, Bowling, Fencing, Golf, Hiking, Indoor Cycle, Pilates, Rock Climbing, Scuba, Taekwondo, Tai Chi, Tango, Tap, Volleyball, Zumba, Yoga, and many more!

Adaptive Fitness (EXS):

EXS 287 - This adaptive physical activity class provides those students with physical limitations access to a portion of the Health Improvement Center for physical activity. This area of the Health Improvement Center is user friendly for adults, of all ages, with physical challenges and special needs. Our qualified instructors will assist students with their exercise program.

Faculty:
All instructors on the floor in the Health Improvement Center, have a bachelor’s degree and are National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Each instructor is there to assist you in your fitness goals.

Recreation (REC):

Recreation courses at Mesa Community College are offered to prepare students for successful employment in the Recreation industry. The curriculum at Mesa Community College also prepares student to successfully transfer to ASU (downtown) Recreation program or to other Recreation Programs at other 4 year institutions.

These courses provide student with the fundamental knowledge of recreation/leisure and quality of life, recreation/leisure delivery systems, programming of recreation/leisure services, recreational leadership, outdoor adventure skills and field experience. (Check EXS prefix for Recreation physical activities such as hiking, backpacking, etc.)

Mesa Community College offers a Recreational Management Certificate or/ an AAS degree in Recreation Management.

Complimentary/Alternative Medicine

Check out and experience our Wellness courses that expand your
awareness and heighten your knowledge of Complimentary/Alternative
Medicine philosophies and practices. This increased knowledge will
enhance your ability to become a wiser consumer of
Complimentary/Alternative Medicine practitioners' expertise and
products and will provide a greater understanding of Alternative
Medicine in general.

Explore the connection between the Mind, Body and Spirit and their
relationship to health and wellness, through a variety of modalities
such as naturopthic medicine, acupuncture, Chines Medicine, herbal
medicine, energy therapies, therapeutic touch, meditation, Qi Gong,
to name a few.
