PHY 101 Introduction to Physics
A survey of physics emphasizing applications of modern life. 4 credits, (3 periods of lecture and 3 periods of lab)
Prerequisites:
Grade of "C" or better in MAT091, or MAT092, or MAT093, or equivalent.

Corequisites:
None





PHY 111 General Physics I
Includes motion, energy, and properties of matter. 4 credits, (3 periods of lecture and 3 periods of lab)
Prerequisites:
MAT182, or MAT187, or one year high school Trgonometry with a grade of "C" or better, or departmental approval.

Corequisites:
None

Course Note:
PHY111 is recommended for preprofessionals and suggested for certain other majors.





PHY 112 General Physics II
Includes electricity, electromagnetism, and modern physics. 4 credits, (3 periods of lecture and 3 periods of lab)
Prerequisites:
PHY105 or PHY111

Corequisites:
None





PHY 121 University Physics I: Mechanics
Kinematics, Newton's laws, work, energy, momentum, conservation laws, dynamics of particles, solids, fluids, mechanical waves, and sound. 4 credits, (3 periods of lecture and 3 periods of lab)
Prerequisites:
MAT220, or MAT221, or departmental approval. One year of high school physics or PHY111 and PHY112 suggested but not required.

Corequisites:
None





PHY 131 University Physics II: Electricity and Magnetism
Electric charge and current, electric and magnetic fields in vacuum and in materials, and induction. AC circuits, displacement current, and electromagnetic waves. 4 credits, (3 periods of lecture and 3 periods of lab)
Prerequisites:
MAT230, or MAT231, or departmental approval, and PHY112.

Corequisites:
MAT241 or departmental approval.





PHY 282A Volunteerism for Physical Science
Service-learning field eaperience within human services organizations, government offices, publis schools, or hospitals. May be repeated for a total of six(6) PHY282 credit hours; may not repeat specific agency assignment for more than three(3) credit hours. Standard grading available according to procedures outlined in catalog. 1 credit, (1 period)

Permission of instructor

Corequisites:

PHS 110 Fundamentals of Physical Science
Survey of the principles of physics and chemistry. 4 credits, (3 periods of lecture and 3 periods of lab)
Prerequisites:
Grade of "C" or better in MAT090, or MAT091, or MAT092, or MAT093, or equivalent, or satisfactory score on Math placement exam.
