Portrait of a Hero

Heroes Among Us

Amid the ruble and twisted metal on that dark and dreary day, came a glimmer of hope. With the rising of smoke came a rebirth, a rebirth of the American Hero.

Our nation has come to know athletes and movies stars as heroes. Yet on that frightening day we were reintroduced to the hero of old. As people ran from the building screaming and frightened, a group of men and women were fighting to get inside.

These people in most cases called it their job or duty. Others were bystanders looking on trying to do anything to help. Whatever the case may be, they did something very few people can do, sacrifice all for another. They proved to a city, a nation and the world once again who heroes truly are. They are everyday people who work as firefighters, police officers, teachers and our military.

As we look back at that fateful day, we will always remember the terrible images portrayed on TV. We will remeber the many people with tears in their eyes as they watched loved ones perish in a brutal act of terrorism. We must also remember the men and women who gave their all in defense of our safety and freedom. This page is designed to remember those men and women who fell in the line of duty that day and those who were simply going about there normal everyday lives. . We would like to now take a moment and share some of the stories that made them "Heroes Among Us."
