Female Infertility

A study by the National Center of Health Statistics estimated in 1988 that 8.4 % of women 15 - 44 years had impaired ability to have children and that only about half of these couples eventually conceive. (These are overall average infertility figures pertaining only to women - statistics will vary greatly depending on the age of the woman.) - Dr. Howard Jones

Major causes of female infertility

1. Endometirosis: A contidion where endometium that should have flowed out during a period instead moves up the fallopian tubes and bonds to the ovaries and tubes.

2. Pelvic Inflamatory Disease: An infection of the uterus and fallopian tubes.

3. Hostile Mucus: When the cervical mucus' pH level is too acidic for sperm to survive in.

4. Amenorrhea: Irregular or absent ovulation.

5. Poly-Cystic Ovaries: Many small cysts around the periphery of each ovary.

Other causes of female infertility include scarring from STDs, ovulation dysfunction, poor nutrition, hormone imbalance, cysts, cancers in the reproductive system, pelvic infection, or transport system abnormality from the cervix to the fallopian tubes. These cause 40-50% of infertility in couples.
