Middle adulthood represents the age span from 35 to 65 years of age. Because of this 30 year span, there is a great amount of variation among individual lifestyles. There are a growing number of individuals who are just becoming parents (Late Parenting), while others are experiencing the events of the Empty Nest Syndrome. Still others are experiencing the joys of Grandparenting.

Patterns of Intimacy vary across individuals and couples. Some persons are dating, others are marrying, and still others are enjoying the rekindled romance that comes with being older and more relaxed with their long time partners. Most married couples redefine their relationship during middle adulthood. For some, this process ends in Divorce.
