Adult Drug Abuse

Although adults are suppose to be more grown up than teenagers and they are suppose to do the right things, there are still those who abuse drugs. Adult drug abuse ranges from several different types of drugs. Some of them include marijuana and methamphetamines.

Parents who use drugs with their children.

Some parents feel it is okay to do drugs with their children. They think that marijuana is a harmless drug and feel that sharing a joint with their teens every once and a while will make them more like friends. Also some baby boomers who are now parents have never given up using drugs and don't have a problem with their children using drugs. Some of these parents buy the drugs for their children and even participate in using the drugs with them.

Methamphetamines

Methamphetamines was ranked 9th out of all drug-related deaths. There were 501 methamphetamine-related deaths which accounted for 5% of to total drug-related deaths. 208 of the deaths were males who were 35 year of age or older. 31% of methamphetamine-related emergency room attendees who were treated in 1998 were 35 and older. (National Drug Control Policy)

Some famous adults who have used methamphetamines are President John F. Kennedy and Adolf Hitler. John F. Kennedy would take a shot to help him cope with his chronic back pain. Adolf Hilter use to receive up to eight injections of meth. every day. It was also found that durig World War II soldiers were given methamphetamines in order to fight hunger and fatigue.

 

Marijuana

Marijuana is one of the most common drugs used in the world. Some people use it for medical reasons and others just for the high, but the fact is it is still a drug that can harm a persons body.

The affects it has on the body:

1. If a woman uses marijauan on a regular bases it could cause her menstrual cycle to be disrupted. 2. Chronic marijuana smokers may get chest colds, bronchitis, emphysems, and bronchial asthma. 3. It also may limit a persons ability for their immune system to fight infections.


Elderly Drug Abuse

Elderly people are not known for using abusing drugs. If they are abusing drugs most likely they are abusing prescribed psychoactive drugs to solve their problems with insomnia, anxiety, and depression.

Older people are less likely to use street drugs such as heroin, cocaine or marijuana. It is not known if it is because of their body changes and the affects it has on their the way they get their highs or if they just don't want to deal with the hassles of what comes along with doing these drugs.

Tobacco:

According to the National Center for Health Statistics nearly 28.5% of men age 65 or olded are smokers, while 9.6% of women age 65 or older smoke.
