Library Science & Information Studies
In a more connected world, becoming information literate is a necessary skill for success in school, the workfornce, and many other areas of life. MCC offers several different credit courses to help students acquire the necessary skills to be effective information consumers in the digital age. These courses are offered in three different prefixes:
Library Information Technology (LBT)Library Information Technology is an occupational/technical program that prepares students for paraprofessional positions in libraries and information organizations, and upgrades the skills of staff presently working in libraries. The program also serves those wishing to change careers or change their current assignment. Individual courses serve as a continuing education option for employees of libraries or information organizations.
Information Studies (IFS)Information Studies (IFS) combines the acquisition of information research skills with critical thinking skills to prepare students to become knowledgeable creators and consumers of information and are geared to the general student body. These courses help students develop skills in accessing, evaluating and using information. The history and structure of information is examined, along with the economic, legal and social issues surrounding the use of information.
Library Skills (LBS)Library skills courses enable students to develop stronger skills in the utilization of library and internet resources and doing more effective research.
