SESSION I: May 28 - June 28, 2010

Description: Participants will spend a full month immersing themselves in the study of Irish culture and history while exploring and experiencing the rich and diverse heritage of Ireland. Using Athlone as a home base, students will take cultural excursions to locations such as the megalithic monuments at Loughcrew and Trim Castle, spend several days in Dublin and take a boat to Clonmacnoise.   View the itinerary.

SESSION II: (Session II will NOT be offered in 2010.)

Description: Students will study Irish culture and history while exploring the rich and diverse heritage of Ireland. This program will provide opportunity to visit historical/cultural places of interest directly related to the study of history, anthropology, literature, religious traditions and music being studied in the classroom including: Clonmacnoise, Inis Mór and Galway, Loughcrew and Trim Castle.   View the itinerary.

Location:

The program is held on the campus of Athlone Institute of Technology located in the medieval city of Athlone, County Westmeath, Ireland. Situated in the heart of Ireland astride the River Shannon, the city is rich in culture and history. Its central location in the heart of Ireland makes access to the rest of the country convenient via road, rail, and bus. See a map

  • Session I: $3,200 plus tuition (6 credits) and registration fee
  • Session II: $3,200 plus tuition (6 credits) and registration fee (NOT offered in 2010)
  • ART142 and MHL149 require additional course fees
