Description: Hosted by the Universal School of Languages, www.universal-spanish.com, this program offers participants an opportunity to immerse themselves in the Spanish language and Mexican culture through placement with host families. A key feature of this program is its design; particularly for people whose professional commitments allow them only a limited time to acquire a working knowledge of Spanish.

Students will make cultural excursions to:

Ancient pyramids in Teotihuacan (UNESCO World Heritage Site)
Mexico City
The colonial city of Taxco (optional)

Location:

The city of Cuernavaca is commonly known as "The City of Eternal Spring". It is the capital of the state of Morelos and is located only 90 minutes from Mexico City's international airport. This city offers a blend of prehispanic, colonial and modern Mexico, providing an ideal learning environment. See a map.

Courses:

  • SPA115: 11614 Beginning Spanish Conversation I. Basic sentence structure, pronunciation and vocabulary necessary to develop speaking ability in Spanish. This program will be tailored for the business community with Spanish speakers. Depending on the field of work, the course will be customized to meet the needs of the professional student.
    Prerequisite: None.

  • SPA116: 11616 Beginning Spanish Conversation II. Continued study of basic pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence structures, and a cultural awareness necessary to develop speaking and listening skills in Spanish.
    Prerequisite: SPA115 or departmental approval.

Costs:

Total cost: $1,675 plus tuition and registration
$150 non-refundable deposit required by March 27, 2009 (extended to April 24, 2009)

    Includes:
  • Round trip airfare (with bus link to Cuernavaca)
  • Room and board with host families in Cuernavaca
  • Transfers and transportation during excursions
  • Two full-day excursions
  • Unlimited internet access
  • Assistance of an on-site coordinator throughout stay in Cuernavaca for general support, tutoring and miscellaneous issues
  • Student medical insurance (secondary coverage)

  • Meals while traveling or when away from host families
