[is the] peasants' departure from their land
and their integration into city life."
These women emerge from their muted surroundings where traditional decorations and Christian calendars decorate the walls. Although the one-child policy, enacted in 1979, still exists in China, rural inhabitants systematically fail to report the birth of girls.
