The MCC Libraries have a comprehensive Library Instruction Program which is a major component of the Information Literacy Program. Library instruction is defined as the education of library users to become effective information retrievers and consumers. MCC Library faculty are available to provide library instruction for any course offered at MCC Southern & Dobson, Red Mountain and extended campuses. The library faculty are flexible and will tailor the instruction sessions to meet the needs of specific courses. Resources include print sources, the web-based Catalog, subscription periodical/reference databases and WWW.

The integration of library instruction with course research assignments serves to make both activities more effective for student learning. The library faculty coordinate, in advance, with the faculty to insure all needed materials and topics are covered in the session. Tools for assessment of the session may include classroom assignments, an exercise created to reinforce the concepts taught in class, a short student and/or faculty questionnaire or any other tool deemed appropriate.

Librarians also develop print and online research guides and instructional materials designed to assist users in using the library and resources. Upon request, they will also assist in the creation of instructional materials such as bibliographies and subject guides that directly relate to library instruction.
