Information Literacy

Informational Literacy at MCC specifically addresses two goals listed in the Libraries' Mission Statement: to provide assistance and opportunities to students, faculty, staff and community to meet their informational and educational needs, to promote continuous learning and to contribute to information competencies and finally, to empower our community to become critical and effective information users. In addition, the program is designed to support faculty in providing students with skills needed to succeed in college. According to the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), Information Literacy is "a set of skills needed to find, retrieve, analyze, and use information".

Information Literacy is intertwined with general library and classroom instruction. Library faculty collaborate with other college faculty in an effort to enhance partnerships in this area. The library offers several credit courses in Information Literacy, more specifically Information Skills for the Digital Age and Information Literacy and the Internet.

The library regularly evaluates past scores of the Student Outcome Assessment in an effort to increase student information literacy competencies. MCC Libraries will continue the development and direction of Information Literacy at MCC via collaboration with the College Student Outcomes Committee.
