PUBLIC PARTICIPATION IN PUBLIC POLICY

Maricopa Community College's Center for Civic Participation works in collaboration with all ten college campuses and a variety of community partners to enrich public life by sponsoring Arizona Issues Forums, Voter Education, Elections information, Citizen Participation Advisory Group, Student Public Policy Forum and students participating in Arizona Town Hall. Mesa Life Options is a new initiative designed to provide baby boomers with the tools, resources, and one-to-one assistance so that they can explore new opportunities, be active in their communities, and rediscover who they are.

Experience Corps offers new adventures in service for Americans over 55. Now in 14 cities, Experience Corps works to solve serious social problems, beginning with literacy. Today more than 1,800 Corps members serve as tutors and mentors to children in urban public schools and after-school programs.

 

National Issues Forums is a nationwide, non-partisan network that promotes public deliberation as a way for citizens to address policy issues. The Center for Civic Participation is a Public Policy Institute (PPI), one of forty around the country that provides technical assistance to individuals and organizations interested in public deliberation. The Center for Public Policy is a community resource that actively partners with an array of groups in order to facilitate public participation in addressing policy issues.
