Spring 2009 Registration

Spring registration is now in full swing. I want to let you know that as a program perks we finally got permission to have early registration. It appears that not many of you took advantage of this huge opportunity. Because of low participation, we may not have this opportunity again. Let me know if this is something you are interested in having available for Fall 2009 registration.

If you were interested in seeing an advisor, now would be a great time to go in to discuss classes for Spring and make sure you are on track with your program. We would like to remind you that the Honors Office does not do Advising. Downlad the list of Honors classes here.

These classes tend to be conducted in a seminar format and will be a rewarding academic experience. Honors Only classes are listed as ‘closed’; you will need to get the permission number from the Honors Office. With this number, you can register at home or in person.

Information and Reminders:

Tuition: The Presidents Scholarship covers tuition up to fifteen credits and the $15.00 registration fee. Any other class fees or lab fees are your responsibility! If these fees are not paid, you will be dropped from the class that that fee is tied to. PLEASE check this! You can pay these online or the cashiers office. If you have been dropped, let me know as soon as possible!

Reimbursement Checks: If for some reason you have not received your reimbursement check or are having problems with the financial aspects of the Presidents’ Scholarship or the Fee Award, please let me know as soon as possible. There are a number of issues that can block funds from disbursing.

The DVDs for Brian Fagan & Sonia Nazario are in the Libraries on both campuses. We also have some copies in the Honors Office that can be checked out.

The Honors Office can help you register for your classes. Make sure you have chosen not only your honors class, but you also have all of your class numbers (five digit number) before coming to register. OR, once you know what you need to take, we can help you build or modify your schedule.

If for some reason you have not gotten into an honors class, OR you are new to the Honors Program and you would like to still take a class for honors credit, you need to turn in an Honors Verification Form, as long as the instructor thinks there is still time to complete your project. Turning in the Verification Form is your responsibility.

Procedures for Student Compliance with Proposition 300

The Maricopa Community Colleges have announced the procedures they are using to comply with Proposition 300.

The Colleges' efforts to comply with the law mean that students are being asked to provide information about their citizenship or legal status. To qualify for in-state tuition and state financial assistance, students must provide documentation as proof of lawful presence in the United States. Acceptable documents include a birth certificate, an Arizona driver license or ID card issued after 1996, and official immigration papers. Students who successfully complete the federal Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will not need to show additional proof of citizenship.

All Presidental Recipients

If you have any questions or are having problems in your classes, now is the time to come and talk to Doug Conway (480 461-7067) or Betsy Hertzler (480 461-7583) about your options to maintain the Presidents' Scholarship. You will need to contact them directly for appointments.

Can't find an Honors class?"

Any class can be taken for Honors Credit as long as the instructor is willing to work with you as an honors student. You need to obtain an Honor Verification Form, fill it out, have the instructor sign the form, and you sign it and turn it into the Honors Office in the Social and Cultural Sciences Building (#14) at the Southern & Dobson campus OR to the Enrollment Services Office in the Mesquite Building (#5) at the Red Mountain Campus. If you have any other questions, call (480) 461-7079 or email me [Lanae Jackson] anytime at: lbjackson@mail.mc.maricopa.edu.
