VETERANS ASSOCIATION

PREAMBLE
We, the
This
organization shall be known as the Mesa Community College Veterans Association.
ARTICLE II. [Purpose]
The purpose of this association shall be to disseminate valuable information to Veterans, (as defined in Article IV-Membership), concerning their benefits; too organize worthwhile projects pertaining to Veterans and their needs; too provide a social grouping whereby help, support and encouragement of Veterans who are beginning their entry into higher education is accomplished in a successful manner.
ARTICLE III. [BYLAWS]
The Veterans
Association may enact, amend, or repeal bylaws.
Bylaws shall be established to include additional rule, provisions, and
regulations of the Veterans Association.
Unless otherwise stated, Bylaws passed by the Veterans Association shall
not expire.
ARTICLE IV. [Membership]
Section 1. Membership is open to all active duty, retired, discharged, Reserve or National Guard personnel and to all others who are eligible to receive benefits under Department of Veterans Affairs guidelines.
Section 2. Membership under [Section 1] shall be considered a lifetime membership.
Section 3. Active student members enrolled in (1) credit hour of course work at
one of Mesa Community Colleges campus(s), the main campus or Red Mountain, have
voting privileges in all matters of business pertaining to ARTICLE I. Members not meeting requirements under ARTICLE IV - [Section 3] retain membership with a non-voting status.
Advisor(s) of ARTICLE I shall
consist of one (1) vote collectively.
Section 4. Funds will be secured through donations, grants and fund raising projects.
ARTICLE V. [Officers and Executive Committee]
Section 1. The officers of the association shall be: President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. These officers shall constitute the Executive Committee. A Master-at-Arms shall be appointed by the Executive Committee and ratified by the members. Committee Chairs shall also be appointed by the Executive Committee and ratified by a single member vote as stipulated in ARTICLE V – [Section 2].
Section 2. A majority of the total votes cast or (50% +1) shall be required for ratification of officer elections.
Section 3. Nominations for elections of officers shall be held not later than the second week of each academic semester year starting January 2004.
Section 4. Elections shall be held not later than the third week of each academic semester year starting January 2004.
Section 5. Voting for officers of ARTICLE I may be completed by paper ballot, oral affirmation or online source; consistent with proper registration of said single member vote leading to ratification under ARTICLE V – [Section 2].
Section 6. Newly elected officers will take office on the day of said affirmation and ratification under ARTICLE V – [Section(s) 4 & 5].
Section 7. [Special Circumstances] A vacancy occurring in the office of the Vice President, Secretary, or Treasurer shall be filled by a special election as outline in ARTICLE V – [Section(s) 3 & 4]. The President shall have the authority to appoint all interim officers deemed necessary to complete ARTICLE II and ARTICLE III within the provisions of ARTICLE V – [Section(s) 1 thru 6].
ARTICLE VI. [Meetings]
Section 1. Meetings
will be held on an as needed basis on dates and times and in a manner
appropriate to conduct the business of the Veterans
Association.
ARTICLE VII. [Representation]
Section 1. Representation of the Veterans Association will be conducted by the President or his appointed representative in all matters pertaining to the Associated Students of Mesa Community College – (ASMCC) Senate or designated governing body. The representing Veterans Association member shall attend all ASMCC student body Senate meeting on the appointed date and time as scheduled by the ASMCC governing body Executive Board.
