MCC Alumni Board FAQ
The Mesa Community College Alumni Association (MCCAA) is overseen by a 21-person volunteer board representing alumni from each decade that MCC has been in service. The board serves in an advisory capacity, working closely with the Office of Alumni Relations to carry out the MCCAA’s mission. Board members are appointed to three-year terms and meet quarterly. Board members also serve on one or more committees.
The board began to meet under the current structure in 2003. Additional information about the association is available throughout this website.
2003-04 Accomplishments
- Awarded the Alumni Achievement Award to F. Rockne Arnett and Danny White and the Outstanding Chapter Service Award to Richard Elward.
- Revised and updated the association’s Constitution.
- Awarded the Alumni and Friends scholarship and set plans in motion to launch a fundraising campaign in 2004-05.
- Increased attendance and prominence of Homecoming activities.
- Provided support to MCC’s Internship Program and collected preliminary data to support a career shadow day.
- Chartered a Nursing Alumni Chapter.
2004-05 Initiatives
- Launch a fundraising campaign to support student scholarships in Spring 2005.
- Host first annual Job Shadow Day.
- Continue alumni awards and recognition program.
- Award the Alumni and Friends scholarship.
- Expansion of Homecoming activities and increase in attendance.
- Expansion of Alumni Card program
- Enhance alumni networking opportunities
Committees
- Awards and Recognition – Responsible for the review and selection of potential awardees with the approval of the Board of Directors to be recognized by the association. Meets the 3rd Thursday of August, January, and April.
- Chapters and Membership – Comprised of the presidents and/or advisor of each alumni chapter. The committee shall provide a forum for discussion and collaboration as well as reporting of chapter activities. Meets the 3rd Wednesday of October, January, and April.
- Homecoming – Responsible for developing and implementing activities to promote camaraderie and fund-raising events at the MCC Homecoming Celebration. Meets 3rd Tuesday of month July through November.
- Mentoring and Internship – Responsible for developing and implementing mentoring and internship programs to fulfill the mission of the association. Meets every other month on 2nd Thursday.
- Nominating – Responsible for nominating and presenting candidates for the Board of Directors of the association. Meets 1st Wednesday of December and April.
- Scholarship – Responsible for awarding scholarships on behalf of the association to continuing or incoming students. The scholarship committee will also work closely with the MCC Development Office to raise funds from alumni for student scholarships. Meets every other month on 2nd Thursday.
