Sonia’s professional career at Mesa Community College spans 17 years where she first was named the coordinator of special events. After nine years, she took a position as coordinator of marketing and public relations and served in this capacity for five years. She is currently the director of the Office of Institutional Advancement and oversees the marketing, media relations, alumni, special events, public relations, graphic design and communication efforts to promote the college’s educational opportunities. Sonia has served on several committees including the City of Mesa’s Marketing Task Force, Latino Town Hall, and Mesa United Way. She currently serves as a board member for the Association for Supportive Child Care and the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Water Watcher Drowning Prevention Committee.

Marcy
Snitzer

Marcy began her career with the University of Arizona (UA), working for the University Teaching Center before joining the Faculty Center for Instructional Innovation as coordinator for a grant funded through the Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE). During Marcy’s tenure at the UA she served on the Women’s Sports Foundation Tucson Awards Committee. Marcy joined MCC in 2001 as the coordinator of alumni relations and communications. Her experience in communications and alumni relations include writing and editing publications, working with community and corporate leaders, coordinating volunteer efforts, planning special events, and database management.

Jordan

Mary brings over 30 years experience in marketing, advertising, and visual communication to MCC. Previous positions include designer and executive art director for Broadway Southwest where she was responsible for all aspects of marketing and advertising, and marketing department product manager for The Arizona Republic. Prior to joining MCC, Mary owned and operated MJW Marketing and Advertising, specializing in graphic design and marketing strategy. She has won numerous awards, including the Retail Advertising Conference award for the opening of Broadway Southwest’s Denver, Colorado store and several awards from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations for Mesa Community College’s marketing materials.

Lora Lassitter

Prior to joining Mesa Community College, Lora Lassitter was the assistant to the director of ASU's Professional and Continuing Education program. Her responsibilities included, planning and scheduling special events, coordinating meetings and activities, conducting project research and grant analysis, and providing support to the marketing team. In 1997 she became the coordinator for special events at MCC. After eight years in special events she became the coordinator of public relations and special events. In her position, she directs the development, coordination and publicity of activities and programs sponsored by the college. Lora provides training and advice in areas such as protocol, facility use, logistical coordination and budget management as it relates to special events. Recently, Lora has taken on the responsibility of providing oversight for IA's daily operations.

Yvonne Schmidt

Yvonne joined the IA team in 2004 as a Public Relations Assistant at MCC at Red Mountain. Supporting MCC’s one college – two campus model, she acts as a liaison to all IA departments at the Southern and Dobson campus. Yvonne began her career at MCC in 1999 providing support to the senior administrators on the planning team at the Red Mountain campus, helping to open the campus in the fall of 2001. One of the planning directions for the Red Mountain campus has been to be environmentally responsible. Yvonne has been actively involved with several environmental stewardship projects on campus including MCC innovative projects and external grants.

Nikki provides a strong administrative support back ground for the IA team. Her years of experience includes cash handling and reconciliation, payroll processing, budget management, and logistical planning for conferences. Prior to joining the MCCCD, Nikki was employed by Walgreens and Office Max. In 2001, she began her career with the Maricopa Community Colleges in the District Office’s Maricopa Advanced Technology Education Center where she served as administrative secretary. She then transferred to MCC’s personnel office as a human resources assistant. She has been with IA since 2003.

Jennifer has been working for Mesa Community College for over 11 years. She began working for the Dean of Student and Community Services then joined the Office of Institutional Advancement team in 2001. Jennifer brings over four years of experience in alumni and communications. She is responsible for writing, editing, and photography services for campus publications. She also maintains the campus marquees, the VoIP message scrolls, online event calendar, and events section on MCC’s homepage as well as provides support for special events.

Heather
Miles
Public Relations and Special Events Assistant

Heather joined MCC’s team in the fall of 2002. She brings several years of public relations, event coordination, and media relations experience from her work with E.B. Lane Marketing Communications, a large Phoenix advertising and public relations agency, where she worked on a variety of local and national accounts including the World Series Parade, AZ Lottery/Coyotes Partnership, and the Arizona Biltmore. Since joining the IA team at MCC, Heather has primarily been responsible for community and student recognition events. However, she recently stepped in to provide media management and writing until the college’s Media Relations position is filled permanently.
