MESA COMMUNITY COLLEGE APPOINTS DIRECTOR OF RED MOUNTAIN CAMPUS

MESA, Ariz.—September 19, 2005—Jo Wilson has been appointed as the director/dean of instruction of Mesa Community College’s Red Mountain campus. In her position, Wilson will provide leadership for student, instructional and facilities issues with particular attention to faculty and learning.

“I am energized by the opportunities and challenges that come with a growing campus,” said Wilson. “I was a part of the Southern and Dobson campus when it was a comparable size and see the opportunity for Red Mountain to have a similar positive impact of the communities of North East Mesa.”

Wilson brings more than 35 years of educational service which includes faculty and administrative experience. Wilson’s educational experiences began with the Maricopa County Community College District in 1970 as a full-time instructor in what is now known as Design, Family, and Consumer Sciences. She also served at department chair for 20 years, and associate dean of occupational programs for 10 years.

In addition, she worked as the director of extended campuses for two years before she retired. After retiring, she joined the active retiree programs as a special assistant to Mesa Community College’s dean of instruction. Her primary responsibility was assisting with the Red Mountain campus. She has returned to full-time status after just three years in the retirement program. It was the opportunity to work with faculty again that drew Wilson back to full-time status.

“I never intended to become so connected to the faculty and engaged with their challenges and teaching successes,” said Wilson. “I wanted to be back and help nurture the developing programs and faculty at the growing Red Mountain campus.”
