Tanya Renner obtained her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from UC Berkeley in 1988. She has taught psychology at Kapi'olani Community College since 1991. As a proponent of active learning, she seeks out and uses strategies that help students take responsibility for their own learning. These approaches, including hands-on demonstrations and problem-solving exercises, were significantly augmented when she discovered service-learning in 1995.
